Social Media Staff Application

What is the position?

  • This position works with various social media platforms. You will be working with twitter, facebook, instagram, tiktok and youtube. As a social media specialist  you will be responsible for creating and administering content on certain social media platforms. The Specialist may also monitor site metrics, respond to reader comments, and oversee creative design. You will be working with a group of people to understand our target audience and goals for each platform.

Job Description

Department: Editorial

Reports To: Social Media Manager

Hours: 5-10 hours per week

Paid: Yes, per semester

Are you interested in engaging a wide audience with news and fun entertainment? The Herald is looking for social media specialists who enjoy working in a fast-paced environment to create visual stories on multiple social media platforms for the students of Western Kentucky University and the surrounding community of Bowling Green.

Responsibilities:

  • Focus on enhancing the digital presence and user experience of the College Height Herald’s web content
  • Shoots and/or edits at least social media stories with a team or independently
  • Create engaging and interactive templates for articles through leveraging existing templates or building out custom ones
  • Maximize the SEO-friendliness of Herald content, including the coordination of slugs, URLs, headlines and metadata
  • Ensure brand consistency between physical College Heights Herald publications and its online presence
  • Assist in the training of editors, photographers, and reporters in the capabilities and opportunities for creative social media content
  • Explore and document additional opportunities for web and social development
  • Manage time to meet urgent deadlines and demonstrate a willingness to learn
  • Follow the ethical guidelines set forth by the Society of Professional Journalists

Qualifications:

  • Must be a WKU Student
  • Must be able to use video gathering equipment and video editing software, such as Adobe Premier.
  • Strong work ethic & self-motivated
  • Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills
  • Strong problem solving, organization and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and take directions
  • Ability to work some weekends, evenings and nights
